Darren This is a testimony of how we were led by God into starting a house church: Around four months ago, I was sitting at my desk, working, and I was reflecting on my life. I have been working in the technology field for many years and own a computer company in Massachusetts. I began to pray to the Lord and asked Him what He wanted me to do with my life. I opened my Bible and it fell to Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation. Now I must start by saying that for over ten years now I have felt a strong urge to preach the word of God. I only now realize why it never came into being until the events that have happened as of the past two months. I was in Ministry on worship teams and a worship leader in a couple of churches over the past twelve years and thought I was doing the work of the Lord. Almost eight years ago when I met my wife (which happened to be in church) we began to try to get settled into and rooted in a local church. This is when I began to have a hard time with the tithing doctrines as well as the prosperity and word faith doctrines that I believed were prideful and not of the Lord. We have been involved with four churches since that time. About two months ago everything radically changed in my life. My dad one day called me and told me about this book called Sovereign God that he had just read that gave him a revelation of God that he had never seen before. Keep in mind my dad and I played on the same worship teams for years together as well. I then went to americaslastdays.com and ordered a copy of the book from April Fields, which was free to me, on a side note. I began to read this book and everything in my life has changed. I began to get a revelation of God like I had never before. My wife and I have four daughters and our fifth daughter is due in December. I guess a boy was not in the Lord's plan. As I was reading the book and the Word I began to get convicted of everything in my life. I began to understand what it meant to believe and have faith like I have never understood before. I have smoked cigarettes for twenty-four years. One morning, a month ago, I put the cigarettes down for good. On day three I was really struggling with this and in my morning prayer and reading time the Holy Spirit spoke to me these words: "How will you ever stand in the tribulation if you cannot even overcome these in your flesh?" This caused me to tremble and I asked the Lord to forgive me. I had a peace come over me since that moment and have not had a craving since. The Lord totally delivered me. Last month, June of 2006, I was sitting at my desk, working, and I began to pray to the Lord again. I asked Him what He wanted me to do with my life and I opened my Bible and again it fell to Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation. The same verse as four months earlier. I had a strong urge just to pray and study the word but I had some more work to get done. I remember saying, okay Lord, but we need to make $119 today. If You want me to devote more time today to study then You will have to provide this for my family. Ten minutes later I was on the phone with a client and I ended up with a $115 job that was to be done that morning. I forgot that I had a $5 check on my desk. I began to thank the Lord and realized He was trying to get a point across. Now I must say that I have never been one, in all these years, to just open my Bible and expect it to be specific in an answer but lately it has been an amazing thing this past month. My dad left his church and the worship team that he was with for many years after realizing that the Word that was being taught was apostate and not from the Lord. I began to see the same things about the same time. We began to seek the Lord individually and the Lord began to show us both that we need to come out from the corporate church and start a home church. A few days later I asked the Lord again to confirm what He wanted me to do with my life. I opened my Bible and it fell open to John 21:15-17: So when they had broken their fast, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again a second time, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Tend my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. This to me again was confirmation in my spirit to preach the Gospel so I asked the Lord to confirm this to me because with a wife and four children, soon to be five, I take providing for them very seriously. I then opened another one of my Bibles, which is a King James, and it fell to the same scripture. I told the Lord that I would obey and not keep asking Him what he had already confirmed to me. Then I opened up Sovereign God to do some more reading in the book and on the page was the following from Proverbs 16:33: The lot is cast into the lap; But the whole disposing thereof is of Jehovah. Over the past month the Lord has done this at least four or more other times with His word, saying the same things. Just the other day I got a call to go and do a job out of town the next day. I know that the Lord told me to devote most of my time to prayer and to His word and my family and He would provide the money we need. I then prayed to the Lord quietly and said, "Lord if you want me to be gone all day tomorrow then I will do whatever you want". I, then, was walking through my living room and saw my wife's Bible on the table. I picked it up and it fell open to John 21:15-17 again, about feeding the Lord's sheep. I then made my way to the kitchen because I was on lunch from work. I went down to my office and got my Bible, returned to the kitchen, and flipped it open and again it fell to John 21:15-17. The Holy Spirit spoke to me and told me to stay in the Word and not to go away for the whole day. I did not go out of town the next day and the Lord brought in a job that paid three times the money and I was done in one hour. I know today that if the Lord used the lot to pick a replacement apostle for Judas then He can certainly do it for us. Back to the home church; my dad and I then purposed that we were going to start a home church and obey God and spread the Gospel. I had prayed all week for a confirmation that this was, in fact, what God wanted us to do. That Saturday, we were having a barbecue with my Father and mother at our house, along with a good friend in the Lord, Gary, who is staying with us at this time. We sat with our wives to explain to them what the Lord has impressed on us to do in regards to a home church. I remember saying to them after explaining what the Lord showed us that "this is what the Lord wants us to do and we must obey Him". At that moment my wife said, "Hey look at that". We all turned around and saw my four-year-old daughter standing at the easel chalk board by the picnic table and she had written in big letters "I AM." Now keep in mind that my daughter does not know how to write and definitely cannot put words together. She knows a couple of letters. That was the confirmation from the Lord I had been praying for. Since then the church has been teaching us things that I know are coming from the Lord. He has been bringing people across our path to share the Gospel. I since have begun to pray that the Lord would speak to me in dreams as well because I want to hear from Him at all times. The other night I had a dream that I was preaching to a group of people and telling them over and over, "The Word of God is true". I believe that they were Christians who were deceived and who really didn't believe the Word to be true because of their unbelief and lack of faith. In the morning I took a ride with my friend Gary, who is part of our home church now, and began to share this dream with him. At that moment he had a look of shock and stated to me that he had the exact same dream and that at 3:00 am he woke up with the words from his dream that "The Word of God is true". God has been moving and speaking in ways I have never seen since He called me in the early '90s. I would just like to state to anyone who is reading this that our God is a Living God and every letter of His Word is true. We must believe without doubt and have faith. I want to thank you, David Eells, for obeying God and writing this book which has changed our lives in regards to how we look at the Word of God. Everyone we have given this book to so far has been changed radically in their walk with God. Your brother in Christ.
