Church Graveyard Dream

Malcolm Clark - 12/08/2008
(Notes in red by David and Rex)

Note: I dreamed this Monday morning, about 3:30 AM, before our church's business meeting the following Sunday, during which I asked for my membership to be dropped. The primary agenda item in this meeting was tithe enforcement.

I came from the pavement of a cul-de-sac to a new construction area onto a newly prepared dirt road. (A cul-de-sac represents dead religion because it is going around in a circle at the end of a dead end road. The take-off from the cul-de-sac is the escape to a new move of God toward Zion. We know there is nothing new under the sun but God is doing a new construction thing for our day. The primary lesson in this dream is that God is about to bring a great revival, while moving dead religion and its worshippers out of the kingdom. As in Jesus' day, God will build Zion, the bride. {Jer.31:22} How long wilt thou go hither and thither, O thou backsliding daughter? for Jehovah hath created a new thing in the earth: a woman shall encompass a man. He will also reprobate the rebels. {Num.16:30} But if Jehovah make a new thing, and the ground open its mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down alive into Sheol; then ye shall understand that these men have despised Jehovah. ) I felt an excitement about this, as I had not seen any construction here the day before. Apparently, a big project was underway. On the right side of the dirt road was a wooded area with trees that had light green leaves. (New growth leaves on trees that represent saints in revival, taking in the SON.) It appeared that the night before a bulldozer had made the road by pushing across the grass perpendicularly to the direction of travel. (Peter said, "All flesh is as grass". God, through judgment, is making the new road, pushing the flesh out of the way and contrary to its common direction of travel.) The color of the dirt/clay mixture of the road was yellow and red, mixed. (Clay is the material the flesh is made of, as with Adam. Yellow represents fear and terror; red is for sin. Through judgment, God will clear away the flesh and put it under the feet of those on His Highway of Holiness through the wilderness. {Isa.35:1} The wilderness [tribulation] and the dry land shall be glad; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. {8} And a highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but is shall be for [the redeemed]: the wayfaring men, yea fools, shall not err [therein]. {9} No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast go up thereon; they shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk [there]: {10} and the ransomed of Jehovah shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their heads: they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.)

The road had perpendicular grooves in it about six inches apart that looked like the bottom of a corrugated culvert, probably from the teeth on the bulldozer blade, except that the driving area was worn down or flattened by a road roller, also driven perpendicularly, coming up only at the edges. The grooves went across the whole width of the road, but were more pronounced at the edges. (The corrugated side of the road is to warn those who are getting close to the edge of the Highway of Holiness. {Isa.40:3} The voice of one that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God. {4} Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain.) As I neared the end of this part of the road, I noticed on the left side of the road a pile of this damp yellow/red clay/dirt about three or four feet high (unusable flesh) that a bulldozer had left. Pushed into the pile of dirt was a large, simple tombstone about four feet high. (The old religious life is dead and pushed aside.) I was surprised and angered that the people responsible for this construction project had so lightly regarded someone's gravesite. Why would they do this? (The old man is the enemy of God and "flesh and blood shall not inherit the Kingdom".)

Then I looked to the right, toward the trees, where the tombstone was pushed from to see what had happened. Here I saw a very large graveyard underneath the trees. However, I was even more horrified to see that bulldozers had pushed most of the tombstones off to the right side beyond the trees. Looking across the graveyard, I could see many piles of tombstones pushed into mounds of the muddy yellow/red clay, similar to what I had seen on the left next to the road. The tombstones were not stacked on top of each other, but had been pushed in their vertical position against each other. They all looked the same -- as if they had been made with a cookie cutter. (Assemblies of the dead who are ruled by the flesh and in agreement with one another will find themselves pushed aside from the move of God. God is building His church and those who will not "come ye out from among them" {2Cor: 6:17} will not make it. For "except Jehovah build the house, They labor in vain that build it: Except Jehovah keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain". {Psalm 127:1}) They did not look damaged or broken. Even though I was upset that there was such disregard for the dead, I had to recognize that because of the massiveness of the construction project underway, that these tombstones were in the way and had to be cleared out. They seemed to be inconsequential and were treated as such. (This is all positive because the old man who has ruled the physical and spiritual life of the believer is moved out of the way and the living trees that sprang up from them have taken their place.)

The bulldozers had cleared out the grass with the tombstones and the disrupted ground was the same yellow/red clay-like dirt. {Mt.25:29} For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away. The only grass was around the two or three tombstones that had been left just to the right of the road I had come in on, but those were about to be cleared out, as well. (There are some within the apostate church who hear and see the truth and God is giving them time and space to commit to it.) What was left was the yellow/red clay around and underneath the trees. The whole area looked like a construction zone. (Tribulation will hasten this construction, consisting of the destruction of the old life so that the new may be raised up. The reprobation of dead religion will accelerate, as the church, or "called out ones", are raised up.)

The trees had been planted in an organized way, like an orchard; with branches starting at about 20 or more feet high with light green leaves. These branches were all at about the same level; the branches and leaves formed a continuous canopy over this whole graveyard area. (One very organized mind is behind the planting of the new life in the old life. The orchard/vineyard/crop is God's doing.) There were no beams of sunlight coming through the leaves; the area underneath these trees was a bit dark because of the heavy foliage. (The leaves received the full benefit of the light of the Word, while the graves benefitted from little.) The bark of these trees was smooth and dark green. (The spiritual man is full of life and not under any curse.) However, the amazing thing was that the bulldozers had not disturbed the bark or roots of these trees. They were stately and it seemed like they belonged there. (The destruction is for the old man and the old churches, not the new. {Rev.9:4} And it was said unto them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree, but only such men as have not the seal of God on their foreheads.)

Trees in the Bible often refer to God's saints: {Isa.41:19} I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together: 20 That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it. See also Numbers 24:5-6, Psalm 1:3, Isaiah 61:3. In a corporate way, the bodies in the graves had provided nourishment for the trees, so the professed people of God dead in sins are still used by God to perfect his true saints. In an individual way, the old man is the dirt that the spiritual man is planted in but grows up out of. But, as Numbers 19 prohibits contact with the dead, requiring separation, so God is about to sweep aside the dead, those in the way of His revived church.

The terrain of this former graveyard was sloped down slightly to the right to the end of the trees where the piles of tombstones were, about 300 feet away, and then started inclining upward away into a low, unkempt, brushy jungle, making it look like a slight valley. Going forward, the terrain was slightly uphill. Looking forward through the trees, in the direction the road was going, I could make out a very large building that resembled a commercial structure that was angled with the left side closest to me and going off into the distance to the right. The former graveyard came right up to this building, which was part of the project. (As in the verses above, the highway of holiness, which is not finished in this picture and in life, leads to Zion, the large building. {Isa.51:11} and the ransomed of Jehovah shall return, and come with singing unto Zion.)

I went over to the right where the remaining three gravesites were. Just to the right of these gravesites was a building maybe 8' x 16'. The long side, closest to the road, was open with no wall (not sanctified) and the floor was about three feet off the ground. There were stairs that went up into the building that extended the whole length of this opening. The purpose of the building seemed to be a public display, like a kiosk or store front along the side of the road. (The Babylonish harlot displaying her wares. {Pr.5:3} For the lips of a strange woman drop honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil: {4} But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword. {5} Her feet go down to death; Her steps take hold on Sheol; {6} So that she findeth not the level path of life: Her ways are unstable, [and] she knoweth [it] not. {7} Now therefore, [my] sons, hearken unto me, And depart not from the words of my mouth. {8} Remove thy way far from her, And come not nigh the door of her house; {9} Lest thou give thine honor unto others, And thy years unto the cruel; {10} Lest strangers be filled with thy strength, And thy labors [be] in the house of an alien, {11} And thou mourn at thy latter end, When thy flesh and thy body are consumed, {12} And say, How have I hated instruction, And my heart despised reproof; {13} Neither have I obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! {14} I was well-nigh in all evil In the midst of the assembly and congregation.)

I went to the nearest of the three gravesites and there I saw a short stack of books and a narrow, rectangular box about 4" x 21". The box looked like an oversized Saran-wrap or paper towel dispenser, with a slit along the top. As I looked in the box facing the narrow side, on the left was a long, narrow stack of paper about 2" x 20". (Paper is for thoughts. This represents very narrow-minded religion.) On the right was what looked like a long slab of marble or a rectangular object set on its side. (The commandments were turned on their side, fallen in the dirt -- honored in word but not kept.) There was no room in the box for anything else. (Most religion doesn't have any room in their narrow box for anything else.)

I took the stack of books to the building to the right and went in. Inside was a long counter on the right side of the building. It had a service area behind it where a clerk or cashier could work, but no one was there. (The merchants of Babylon were in their spiritual grave.) I took the little stack of books that I had picked up at the gravesite and put them on the counter. I picked up each book one at a time, carefully looked it over and put it down on the right, creating a new stack. I was careful and almost reverent with each book. On top was a pure-looking, cream-white book with no printing on the front or back of the cover. I do not know what was in it but it was the most important book in the stack. (This is the Bible, the only book needed. It should be on top and more than just physically. It is not printed on the covers because man cannot claim it.) Next was a tan-colored, denominational evangelistic hymnbook copyrighted in 1944. (Many of the old hymns were full of leaven. The cover of this book is the same color as yeast, as Jesus said, {Mt.16:6} Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.) After that, there were three doctrinal study guides that I recognized, all with purple covers. (The same number as the graves on the end of the building. {Rev.17:4} And the woman was arrayed in purple...) Finally, there were several evangelistic handouts.

After looking each of these over, I carefully put each book or magazine back in the order I found it. It occurred to me that the person in the grave wanted these books and papers to be made available to others as a legacy. (Self-perpetuating religion [2 Tim.3:5-9].) I was sad that the person represented by this tombstone had no ability to pass on these beliefs themselves because, obviously, that person was dead. ("Let the dead bury the dead", as Jesus said. The connection is made here between the three doctrinal study GUIDES, [Blind guides, Jesus called them] and the spiritually-dead.) The only way someone could find out about these things was to stop at the gravesite and review the evangelist tools left behind, and that was unlikely. I thought to myself, "Someone ought to help fulfill this dead person's wish to get this information out". (Those in the denomination feel obliged to carry on in the name of their founders, not the Lord.) (After the dream, I was given the name of the person represented by this gravesite, a current member of our church.)

Then I understood that this person in this grave had a balance owing on their account of $240. Because of this balance, our pastor for the three churches (now we have three doctrinal guides, three graves and three churches) for this district had a financial relationship with the gravesite and was caretaker of it. Then I realized that all the other tombstones in the graveyard represented the laity in these three churches. Each tombstone that had a balance owing on the account had a financial relationship the pastor, and he was their caretaker. In the dream, this relationship seemed petty and disgusting. (There also seems to be a symbol of the three purple books to the three churches covered by the pastor. This denomination holds them in bondage [debt] via financial obligation.) The pastor's responsibility was to care for all the gravesites that had this financial relationship (The financial relationship is the Nicolaitan error, which Jesus hates [Rev.2:6], that makes a distinction between the clergy and the laity, creating a caste system in which the clergy, or ruling class, demand tithe of the laity [peasants]. This type of relationship is foreign to and undermines the principles of church government, as established by Jesus: "all ye are brethren", {Mt 23:8}).

While I stood there trying to digest all of this, I suddenly understood that some unknown person (Jesus) had just paid the $240 owed on behalf of the gravesite that I was reviewing. I thought this was touching. Because of this, the pastor no longer had a financial relationship with that gravesite and was no longer its caretaker. (Jesus paid for their redemption from the denominational laws; {Gal.4:5} To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.) Then I understood that several other tombstones had had their balance brought to zero and they were no longer under the pastor's care, either. This was an on-going, dynamic process. (The Lord will bring out a remnant. Some will heed the clarion call to "come ye out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; And I will receive you" {2Cor. 6:17}.)

The problem was that these three tombstones that were left were slated to be bulldozed almost immediately, and that once that happened, the pastor would have no more gravesites to care for. Apparently, these remaining gravesites and the building had been left on display only until I could see all this before being pushed out of the way to the side. (This is a warning to the denominational creations of Men not to depart from one iota of the Word or they will be found not in His image and not in His Kingdom.)

Observations: During the dream, I found myself ultimately more concerned about the disrespect shown to the dead than I was excited about the trees or the project. Yes, God gives us time to align ourselves with Him when He shows us that we have an attachment to idols, but eventually we have to choose sides. Waiting too long to disassociate, as the story of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram in Numbers 16 shows us, is deadly.
