Love for the Brethren My Brother’s Keeper #3 The Lord is holding us accountable to be our brother’s keeper. We discovered in Matthew 25, that Jesus shared with us the end times where He would separate the sheep from the goats. The sheep being those who have treated the least of His brethren with compassion, love, and met both their physical and spiritual needs. We discovered that separation was based on whether we met His needs in His disciples. (Mt.25:35) For I was hungry, and ye gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; (36) naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. (37) Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or athirst, and gave thee drink? (38) And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? (39) And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? (40) And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, even these least, ye did it unto me. Then He turns to the goats and commends them into eternal punishment because they didn’t do these things. Some people believe that He is judging each nation individually, but this is not the case. Jesus said that we would be hated by all nations (Mt.24:9). So as a whole, the nations are all goats; they are going to hate God’s people. But the nations of people will be separated as sheep from the goats according to how they treated His people. The interesting thing here is that it had to do with eternal life. These people that did provide for the needs, spiritual and physical, entered into the Kingdom and those that didn’t entered into eternal fire or eternal punishment. I wouldn’t call the treatment towards the brethren a condition of eternal life, but a fruit of those who have eternal life. Of course, the fruit is love, which is the most important thing. Eve
